Central Hiroshima's Peace Boulevard and the Kamiyacho shopping district are strung with light tunnels and illuminated trees each winter, turning the city's main east-west avenue into a walk-through display for about seven weeks.
Background
Organized by the city and local business associations, Dreamination has run every winter since the late 1990s and is timed to run through the New Year holiday as well as Christmas.
Getting there
Kamiyacho-nishi and Kamiyacho-higashi tram stops (Hiroshima Electric Railway) sit at the heart of the display; Hiroshima Station is about 15 minutes away by tram.
Tips
- The display runs later into the new year than most illuminations (through January 3rd), making it a workable stop even on a New Year's trip.
- It's free and unticketed — the light tunnels along Heiwa-odori are the easiest single stretch to walk if time is short.
