The Sapporo Snow Festival is Japan's biggest winter event: giant snow sculptures lined up for about 1.5 km through Odori Park in the city centre, with projection mapping on the largest ones after dark, an ice sculpture street in Susukino, and snow slides and rafts at the family-friendly Tsudome site. The 77th festival runs February 4–11, 2027 at all three sites.
Background
The festival includes the International Snow Sculpture Contest, with teams from around the world, alongside sculptures made by Sapporo citizens. Planning for the 2027 festival was announced by the organizing committee in July 2026, with details added through the winter.

Odori site: Odori Station (Namboku, Tozai and Toho subway lines), 5 min walk from JR Sapporo Station. Susukino site: Susukino Station (Namboku Line). Tsudome site: the east of the city, reached from Sakaemachi Station on the Toho Line.

Tips
- All three sites run February 4–11, 2027. Odori and Susukino are free, open-air and walkable from each other; save Tsudome for daytime, especially with children.
- The big snow sculptures are lit in the evening, and projection mapping runs on them after dark — go twice if you can, once in daylight and once at night.
- Hotels in Sapporo sell out and prices jump for festival week. Book months ahead, or stay in Otaru or near New Chitose Airport and come in by train.
- The organizers lend out gear to help prevent falls on snowy paths — but bring or buy shoes with grip anyway.
