Yamanakako's Hananomiyako flower park lines its lakeside paths with LED light displays each winter, with Mt. Fuji visible across the water as a backdrop on clear nights.

Background

The park runs the illumination alongside its winter 'Diamond Fuji' viewing season, when the sun sets directly behind the summit of Mt. Fuji as seen from the lakeshore, drawing photographers as well as illumination visitors.

Getting there

About a 15-minute bus ride from Fujisan Station (Fujikyuko Line) via the Yamanakako-shuyu bus route; by car it's roughly 20 minutes from the Fuji-Yoshida IC.

Tips

• Diamond Fuji (the sun setting behind Mt. Fuji's peak) is visible from the park on clear evenings in December and January, around 15:30 — worth timing your visit for.
• The area gets cold and can be windy off the lake; dress for temperatures several degrees below Tokyo.
