Roughly 800 cherry trees line both banks of the Meguro River through fashionable Nakameguro, forming a pink tunnel over the water that's lit by paper lanterns and LED lights after dark.
Background
What began as a modest neighborhood cherry-lined canal has become one of Tokyo's most photographed hanami spots over the past two decades, as the surrounding Nakameguro district itself grew into a boutique and cafe destination.

Tips
- Unlike most hanami spots, there's little grass to sit on — this is a walking, not picnicking, cherry blossom experience along the riverside path.
- The evening illumination, with paper lanterns strung along the water, is arguably better known than the daytime view.
- The ward asks visitors to walk in one direction and not to stop — specifically not on the bridges or in front of Nakameguro Station, which is exactly where everyone wants to photograph. Stewards direct the flow at peak times.
- Drinking on the street and loud groups are asked against by name: the promenade runs between houses and flats, and residents live with this for two weeks every year.
- This is a walking hanami, not a picnic — the path is too narrow to sit on. Take your rubbish with you or hand it back to the stall you bought from; littering is the thing the ward asks about most directly.
