Halloween Horror Nights is the after-dark half of Universal Studios Japan's autumn season in Osaka. From 6pm until closing the park streets are taken over by roaming zombies, and a set of horror attractions runs for the season — in 2026 a Resident Evil Requiem attraction, the Factory of Fear zombie tour, the Sadako dark ride and Lights Out, the park's first R-18 attraction. The 2026 run is billed as the fifteenth, from September 11 to November 8.
Background
Universal Studios Japan runs Halloween Horror Nights as the night-time strand of its autumn season, and the official site bills the 2026 run as its fifteenth year. The format — street zombies after dark plus a rotating set of horror mazes — has stayed broadly the same, while the individual attractions are rebuilt each year around current horror and game titles.
Getting there
Universal City Station on the JR Yumesaki Line (officially the Sakurajima Line) is a few minutes' walk from the park gates. From Osaka Station the trip takes about 11 minutes with one change at Nishikujo.
Tips
- The street zombies come out at 6pm (6:30pm on Oct 13) and stay until closing. If the horror is what you are after, the Twilight Pass — entry from 3pm, from ¥5,900 for adults — costs less than a full-day ticket.
- The park runs a daytime autumn programme, Universal Extreme Autumn ~Discover U!!!~ (September 10 to November 8), and switches to the horror line-up after dark — one admission ticket covers both.
- Universal Studios Japan does not recommend the event for children aged 5 and under, and guests aged 12 and under need a guardian's consent.
- Lights Out, in Stage 18, needs its own paid ticket (from ¥1,900) on top of admission, is closed to anyone 17 or under and requires signing a waiver on the day. Bags go in lockers at the entrance, and you should arrive 15 to 5 minutes before your time slot.
- Costumes are welcome, but not ones that hide your face: no full-face paint or special-effects makeup, masks covering more than half the face, helmets, or overly revealing or grotesque outfits. Zombie or ghost looks that cover the face are banned entirely in and around Universal Wonderland and Minion Park. Change in the costume changing room at Stage 18, not in the park toilets.
- Wear sneakers — the park warns that sandals and mules are unsafe during the event — and leave large bags in a locker, since the street performances crowd the paths.
- Express Passes, which cut the queue for a fixed set of attractions including some of the seasonal horror attractions, are sold separately from admission and are tied to a specific date.
