A 700-meter promenade along the Imperial Palace's northwest moat, Chidorigafuchi is framed by around 260 cherry trees whose branches arch out over the water, best seen from a rowboat rented at the moat's boathouse.
Background
The moat dates to Edo-era Edo Castle fortifications; the promenade and boat rental have made it one of central Tokyo's signature hanami spots, distinct from Ueno's picnic-crowd atmosphere.

- Renting a rowboat to view the blossoms from the water is the signature Chidorigafuchi experience — expect a queue on weekend afternoons during peak bloom.
- Evening illumination lights the moat and blossoms after dark; it tends to be less crowded than the daytime promenade.
- Rowboats on the moat cost ¥2,000 an hour per boat (up to 3 people) in normal season, rising to ¥3,000 during the cherry blossom weeks in 2026 (Mar 26–Apr 6) — with a Chiyoda-resident discount to ¥1,600. There is also a ¥12,000-an-hour "smart ticket" that guarantees a same-day boarding slot without queueing; most visitors don't need it and can just join the regular line.
- On weekends during the light-up period, the path runs one-way — enter only from the Yasukuni-dori side, since the Hanzomon-side entrance is closed to keep the crowd moving in one direction.
