The Christmas Market in Hikari no Machi Hakata fills the plaza in front of JR Hakata Station with about 30 white huts in the style of a Paris Christmas market, selling spiral sausages, hot wine and goods imported from Europe. Admission is free.
Background
The market is part of Christmas Advent (known as Fukuoka Christmas Market until 2023), a city-wide event with market and illumination venues from Hakata to Tenjin. The organizer reports around 12 million visitors to date, the most of any Christmas market in Japan, and bills its November 1 opening as the earliest in the country.

Tips
- In 2025 it ran November 1 – December 25: November weekdays 4:45–11:00 PM, and weekends, holidays and every day from December 1, noon–11:00 PM. 2026 dates had not been announced as of late September.
- Drinks come in the yearly souvenir mug, which isn't sold on its own. Bring a mug from a previous year and you pay only the refill price.
- It's right outside the station, so it's easy to fit in on arrival or before a late train.
