Background
Planted along the embankment over decades as a flood-control and beautification project, the tunnel of trees has become one of Tohoku's three great cherry blossom spots, drawing crowds specifically for the mountain backdrop rare among Japan's riverside sakura spots.
Getting there
About a 5-minute walk from JR Ogawara Station (Tohoku Main Line); a seasonal rapid train service sometimes runs direct from Sendai during peak bloom.

- The view from the far bank, looking across the river toward the tree tunnel with Zao in the background, is the classic postcard shot rather than walking directly under the trees.
- A seasonal chairlift on the Funaoka Castle Ruins side of the river gives an elevated view over the full 8km stretch.
